Roma Evelyn Quandt, daughter of Fred and Clara Steen Hennig, was born June 2, 1922, in rural Elkader, Iowa. She was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Elkader. Roma received her education in the country schools near Elkader and graduated from Elkader High School. She attended junior college in Elkader and graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids.
On November 27, 1957, she was united in marriage with Donald Quandt. For seventeen years, Roma taught school in Elkader, Anamosa, Edgewood, and Cedar Rapids. She and her husband have made their home for many years on a farm near Randalia. Roma enjoyed taking an interest in her health and reading.
Following a brief illness, her death occurred Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union. She was eighty-nine years old.
In addition to her husband, Don of Randalia, she is survived by one brother, Lorraine “Sonny” (Marilyn) Hennig of Green Valley, Arizona; one sister, Mineva (John) Pelc of Lincoln, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 28, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fayette with Rev. Bert Mueller officiating. Interment will follow at Long Grove Cemetery in Maynard. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday.
